{Homeschool Conference}

Crowds of homeschooling parents and children, many exciting booths sparking the interest of both parent and child, and mostly.. books, books, books! This is my second year attending this amazing event. You never realize how many other families really do homeschool. You finally realize "Hey, We're not the only ones!" It is so thrilling to see so many homeschooled families all packed together in one place. So many families who believe in many of the same things you do. So many children who are so unique and know how to be themselves. It is just amazing. You really see how diverse and wonderful a single child can really develop and grow to become when they don't have the pressure of so many other things that you find in any (usually only public) school. They don't  have that pressure of thinking they have to "fit in" rather than be themselves. This is one reason I really wish I would have been homeschooled since childhood. Obviously this just wasn't God's plan for me, but in the last few years of public school, I really have tried to "fit in" and not be myself. I was scared others would like me for who I really was. Something any child shouldn't have to worry about.

Anyways, we had a great time perusing through the HUGE selection of books. One book I decided would be wonderful to invest in was a book from 1874 called Glaucia The Greek Slave.

It looks rather interesting, and a good read I'm sure it will be. I am rather captured by the fact that it is about a young woman who is fighting to stay true to  her faith in the Lord while every one else around her puts their faith in the many Greek gods. I have been learning a lot of the Greek gods in school right now, as well, both from "textbook" and reading The Iliad and The Odyssey.

Another book that looks quite marvelous is The Family Daughter. This book was written by a young lady named Sarah Bryant when she was either sixteen or eighteen (I can't quite remember). She even signed the book for me! It was great to meet the author, which always seems to make the book a little more special. She also publishes a magazine called The King's Blooming Rose. I have read a coupe articles so far, but I have not gotten to then yet. Busy.. Busy.. Busy. :o) I will definitely write some kind of book review once I do finish reading these books, of course.

One more book, not from the homeschool conference, but from my dear parents for Easter is a book called Broken: 7 "Christian" Rules That Every Christian Ought to Break as Often as Possible. A long and peculiar title, but I know it will be an excellent book because it is written by Pastor Fisk. :o)
